SES San Jose Day 1 – Morning

Filed in Conferences/Educ., SEM, Social Media, Yahoo by Matt McGee on August 7, 2006

We’re off to a good start at SES San Jose. I sat in on the PPC Advertising: Compare and Contrast Session first thing this morning. Must be tough to do a Monday, 9 am session what with so many people arriving late and walking in during the presentations. Good information, nonetheless. I’ll try to share some of the notes I took later when there’s more time.

After that it was off to the Yahoo-specific Social Search session, where the Yahoo folks spoke about Yahoo Answers, Flickr, del.icio.us, Trip Planner, and more. After some discussion about the likelihood of spam hitting these social search sites, I asked if they planned to do anything to make their properties more business-friendly — to encourage businesses to use Yahoo Answers or Flickr. Kakul Strivastava (sp?) of Flickr specifically said they don’t want businesses using Flickr — it’s for personal photo sharing. That’s all well and good, but I think Yahoo is crazy if they don’t think businesses will be using Flickr as a marketing tool.

I’m posting some SES photos on Flickr if you’re interested.
