LocalU.org: New Name, New Website, Same Great Small Business Workshops

Filed in Conferences/Educ. by Matt McGee on January 7, 2013

localu-logoYou won’t be hearing me refer to “GetListed.org Local University” anymore. It’s not that the local/small business workshops are finished … quite the contrary. They’re alive and well, and operating under a new name:

Local University

The link there is to the new website, LocalU.org, which includes some more background in this blog post by Mike Blumenthal.

All of this is happening due to SEOmoz’s recent acquisition of GetListed.org — which didn’t include the traveling workshops that we’ve been doing since February 2010.

So, the core group of Local U participants (myself included) has formed a new company and we’ll continue offering our local/small business marketing workshops throughout the year.

Upcoming Local U Workshops

We’ve started posting a schedule for the early part of the year: LocalU Events. We’ll be in Austin and Corpus Christi, Texas, early next month and then in Baltimore in early March.

If you know of small business owners that can use some help with their online marketing — local/maps visibility, on-page SEO, reviews, social media, analytics and more, please let them know about our workshop.

Also, when we get to Baltimore, one of our events will be Local University Advanced, which is aimed more at local marketers or companies of any size that are already pretty well-versed in the basics of local marketing. If that’s you, save some money with this discount code when you register:

MCGEE2013 = $100 off

If you’d like to keep in touch with the new Local U, here’s how:

Twitter: follow @LocalUniv
Facebook: like Local University
Google+: add/circle Local University

On behalf of the Local U team, I hope to see you at one of our events in 2013!

  1. So when are you coming to Tampa?

    • Matt McGee says:

If you (or someone) can get us 150 people in the seats, we’ll be there. 🙂 Seriously, Kristinn, feel free to use the contact form on the Local U site if you want to put in that request. But we do need someone in the local area to be the point-man on organizing, etc.

  2. Lisha Garcia says:

I would like to download the presentations that you had at the Austin Google event as you went really fast and I couldn’t grasp everything in notes. Thank you for a most informative and crucial event.

    • Matt McGee says:

Hi Lisha – sorry if I spoke too quickly! 🙂 The link to download all of the presentations was included in the event folder that you received on check-in. If you don’t have that anymore, the best thing to do is send an email via the LocalU.org website to request the link for the presentations. We don’t like to share that publicly because the material is only for attendees.
