How to Verify Your Bing Business Portal Listing

Filed in Bing, Local Search by Matt McGee on February 23, 2012

One of the more common questions that comes up when I write about the Bing Business Portal surrounds how to verify a new listing. Or maybe “where” is the better word. The “how” part is pretty easy, but some users are having trouble finding where to finish the verification process. So here’s what I know about it.

After you get the nifty Bing Business Portal postcard, you’ll need to follow these steps:

1.) Login to the Bing Business Portal at www.bingbusinessportal.com.

When you login, you should see a screen similar to this, with your current listing(s) — both verified and unverified.

The second listing still needs to be verified, so Bing gives me a button for that purpose.

2.) Click the “Verify” button.

When you click the “Verify” button, you’ll get sent into the business listing management tool. The problem is that Bing doesn’t send you directly to the Verification tab. It takes you to the main Name/Address/Phone tab.

Until Bing fixes that poor usability issue, you’ll have to click one more time — look for the “Verification” tab in the upper right.

3.) Click the “Verification” tab.

After you click, you should end up on a page that allows you to enter the PIN number from your postcard.

And you’re done! Last time I did this, I think it took about a week for my updates to be processed and go live on the business listing in Bing Maps, but your mileage may vary.

Thanks for this posting. Yes, Bing is SO frustrating! I couldn’t do a phone verify because the phone number has changed and I probably won’t get the postcard either because the address that was listed is SO old. I can’t figure out what the heck to do but cross my fingers that the postcard somehow makes it to my current long-held address!
