Google Starts Upgrading Local Business Dashboard
Just a quick note for anyone who may have missed it: Google has started upgrading the Google Places dashboard with some stronger ties to the new Google+ Local experience.
I did a fairly brief overview of what’s new on Search Engine Land. And there are some other articles I recommend:
- Google’s Joel Headley gives a very thorough and detailed overview of how different types of business owners should respond — if you have more or less than 10 locations, if you’re new to Google local products, if you already use Google+ Local, etc. It’s a must read.
- Mike Blumenthal wrote this excellent Analysis: Google Places for Business – Upgrade or G+ Pages Lite? article, and also has a longer recap of article links here.
Thats a good read, we have found a lot of our clients open a google+ /local page but then are unsure how to use it, we find these guides etc are usually a good for helping them
Hey Marion, I’ve come across the same thing so many times… a client basically just signs up for an account and then leaves it dormant, which has little or no value. With G+ becoming such a factor for ranking in Google, local businesses need to understand its value and stay active on Google+, including building up their profile/circles, as well as consistently post fresh, unique content directly to their account. This will go a long way, especially with the direction Google is heading!
