Flickr’s Description META dead in SERPs

Flickr logoIf you’ve ever seen a Flickr photo page appear in the SERPs, you’ve probably seen Flickr’s sitewide “Description” meta tag showing as the snippet. It goes like this:

Flickr is almost certainly the best online photo management and sharing application in the world. Show off your favorite photos to the world, securely and …

That text is still in use as the “Description” meta tag on each Flickr photo page, but it’s no longer showing up as the universal snippet. Have a look here:

What’s this mean? Well, if you’re marketing on Flickr, it means a well-written photo description now has a chance of showing up in the SERPs. Little thing? Sure, but given the popularity of photo search, it’s worth remembering and using to your advantage.
