Yahoo Upgrades Local Search

This needs to be mentioned: Yahoo has announced new features and a new look for Yahoo Maps. In particular, I’m paying attention to the inclusion of neighborhood footprints in two cities (New York and San Francisco) with more to come, and the “search by point of interest” feature. This is important from an SEO perspective because neighborhoods and landmarks are often a part of local searches. (Think “hotels near Space Needle” as an example.)

Greg Sterling writes a good overview at Search Engine Land. (Can I just start using the SEL acronym, instead?)

It is a pity that Yahoo does not want to invest in Europe more seriously :(.
Before using shortcuts for any words, probably it is good idea to take a look at analytics data to get to know if
    a) you have many new users or usually loyal ones
    b) if you have many direct entries or mainly entries from search engines (people from search engines may not understand those shortcuts correctly).
