SoloSEO-
It seemed to me like Brian was saying if there wasn't very strong data in the local index, then Yahoo might go to the website in order to fulfill a user's query with a result, but I found this a little unclear, too.

Really, if that's the case, I find that a bit disappointing. A local business is likely to spend about 100X as much time making their website useful as they are registering their business with Yahoo Local. I think websites should count more...but being a designer, I'm biased.

Matt, this was so great that you got this interview. You asked really good questions!

I have a question, too. Brian says:
"They can really lay out all the products and services and brands they carry, write a long description "

Is this ability only in Yahoo's paid listings? Is it in the free one? I need to see and read more about this. Any notes?

Thank you so much for this post, Matt. It's great!

Matt, I wrote up a little "synopsis" from your interview over at my new local search blog, CityMarketer.com.

One point I am still confused on was about the use of a local business website in the algorithm. He said it depends on the context and precision needed, but then both his statements, at least to me, seemed opposite to each other. Any clarification from you on that?
