SEMMY Awards Status Report

Filed in SEMMY Awards by Matt McGee on January 9, 2011 4 Comments

Right about this time of year is when there are usually several announcements related to the annual SEMMY Awards. You may have noticed no such announcements this year, and in the event you’re curious to learn why, here’s what’s going on.

In a nutshell: I’m swamped.

In addition to being more formally involved with Search Engine Land and Sphinn, I’m also writing about 40,000 words for an updated version of my U2 book. And there’s also the regular client commitments, some personal projects I’m working on, family stuff, and so forth.

Result: This year’s SEMMY Awards will not be happening in January (as they normally do). If all goes well, they might happen in February. But, if I’m being realistic, there’s a chance there will be no SEMMY Awards at all this year. The one thing I won’t do is keep telling myself, “Next month I’ll have time.” I’ll cut the cord rather than string things along.

To those who enjoy the SEMMYS and look forward to them every January, please accept my apologies for the delay. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

I hope they’ll happen – better late than not at all. I found last year’s hugely valuable. That said, how DO you find time for it all? Love your content, Matt.

Agreed, Matt that they’re valuable and a great way to find consolidated new blogs to read and learn from….but I hear you when you say you’re too busy….

Putting aside the fact that you “are” the SEMMYs…maybe you might consider letting a group manage same, ie an SEO assoc or some such thingy…don’t know how you’d even find one but say something like SEMPO etc etc?

    ?

    Jim

  3. No worries dude… we all appreciate your hard work!

Hi Matt, I really hope you can still find the time or maybe some other people who can do most of the SEMMYs work this year!
