The List: Local Search Industry on Twitter
By Matt McGee on Nov 19, 2008 in Local Search
Disclaimer/Request: I’m certain this list is incomplete, so let me start with a request for help: After you read this list of local search companies, consultants, etc., on Twitter, use the comments to let me know who you think should be added.
Intro: In an effort to help make more connections and develop relationships within the local search industry, I thought it would be fun to put together a big list of people and companies with close ties to local search who are using Twitter, or at least have registered accounts on Twitter. Here’s what I’ve come up with so far:
TheKelseyGroup - well known local consultancy
MikeBoland - from The Kelsey Group
ShowMeLocal - local marketing tool/service
BrightPages - national, online B2B yellow pages directory
MapQuest - well known mapping service web site
SebProvencher - Sebastian Provencher, from Praized Media
Praized - local listings/reviews platform
MartijnBeijk - local/mobile marketing consultant
StevenBJohnson - co-founder of Outside.in
OutsideIn - hyperlocal community site
Belasco - Mike Belasco, local marketing consultant
Citysearch (inactive … c’mon, Citysearch!)
TMPDirectMktg - local marketing agency
Emad - Emad Fanous, former Citysearch exec, co-founder of YellowBot.com
LocalSEOGuide - Andrew Shotland, local marketing consultant
DonCampbell - local marketing consultant
MaryBowling - local marketing consultant
docoloco - Australian local listings/reviews platform
DavidMihm - local marketing consultant
MDJensen - Michael Jensen, local marketing consultant
W2Scott - Will Scott, local marketing consultant
SteveMcStud - Steve Espinosa, local marketing consultant
140Local - Tim Flint, local marketing consultant
jseattle - Justin Carder, hyperlocal blogger in Seattle
AmericanTowns - national community directory
PerryEvans - CEO of Local Matters, formerly with MapQuest
RyanKuder - founder of hyperlocal startup Neighborsville.com
Locallectual - community site for supporting local businesses
Okay, so that’s what I’ve come up with so far. My focus is on local search companies and marketers, as opposed to small business companies and marketers. That’ll be another list for another day.
If you have someone or some company to add, the comments are open!

Alright, here’s the first batch of updates to the list above:
Yipit - ultralocal search covering Manhattan furniture stores

yb - YellowBot directory site (inactive on Twitter)
golander59 - Gib Olander of Localeze
Yellow_Pages - (inactive)

I am not on Twitter (just don’t have the time yet), but do offer local search services and write about local search.
It would be interesting to hear how these people use twitter, then again I guess that’s a argument for me to join.

Great list, Matt. I’m not sure Yipit is at the same level as the people / companies on your list, but we are also on Twitter.

Matt,
I’ve been casually following you along - and this is really a tremendous resource for the community. Local search is a really underserved market (as you obviously know),and it’s nice to find a list of thought leaders on twitter. All the rest duly added.
