Awards, Conferences, & Interviews

Whew. I forgot how much work went into the inaugural SEMMY Awards last year. Last night, putting together the announcements of 17 categorical winners — that was a mad dash to the end, checking who won, writing the posts, grabbing the screenshots of each ballot to show the vote percentages. Finally finished at around 1:00 am and the SEMMY Award Winners were announced this morning. Congrats to the 17 winners — all are well-deserving, even if a couple of you beat me. 🙂

smx logoWith the SEMMYS done for another year, my attention turns now to conference season. I’ll be speaking at several events in the next few months, starting next week at SMX West in Santa Clara. I’m on the Local Search Marketing Tactics on the first day, where I’ll be introducing hyperlocal blogging to the audience as a great way to connect with potential local customers and clients, as well as to attract local search traffic.

That’s my only speaking slot, but I’m also coordinating and moderating three other sessions:

We have some great speakers lined up for all of those sessions — the Google Blog Search one should be interesting because we only have one speaker … the Google blog search rep. He’ll give a presentation (I may give a short one, too, if I have time to put something together), and then the rest of the time will be open for Q&A. I’m expecting the marketers and biz owners on hand to have lots of good questions about how to get visibility from Google blog search.

You can get $100 off SMX West registration by using the code “SMXgeek” (case-sensitive).

sempdx logoAfter SMX West, it’s on to SearchFest ’09 in Portland, where I’ll be speaking on the Small Biz/Local panel with Mary Bowling and Greg Hartnett. I’ll likely be covering local blogging there, too, but not positive yet. The SearchFest crew is doing a series of speaker interviews, and you can read mine here. SearchFest doesn’t happen until March 10th — I’ll have more as it gets closer.

Finally … speaking of interviews, I just learned that an interview I did last fall at SBMU Columbus was posted over the holidays. Don’t know how I missed that one, but okay. (Thx Rachel for the link.) Mike McDonald and I were previewing my SEO Tools presentation, and I’ll embed it here for anyone interested.

Matt, we’re really looking forward to having you back at Searchfest. I know it’s going to be a great conference, particularly the Local & SMB panel.

Any of your readers who want more details on Searchfest are welcome to email me at davidmihm@gmail.com — just a heads up that early bird pricing ends 2/25.
