500 Twitter Followers: We (Finally) Have a Winner
By Matt McGee on Jun 22, 2008 | comments (7)
A couple alert friends emailed me over the weekend to point out that I now have 500+ followers on Twitter. This normally wouldn’t be worth a blog post, except for that Twitter for charity contest I’ve been having with Jeff Quipp of Search Engine People. Yeah, remember that one?
It’s with great pleasure that I share the image at right, showing my Twitter home page with its 500 followers. w00t! This means that Jeff and I will each donate $250 to the charity of my choice, which is the African Well Fund, a charity started years ago by some friends of mine with the goal of building wells to bring clean water to Africa.
Bonus: Will Scott of Search Influence and Li Evans of Key Relevance also chipped in donations of their own, so the AWF will be getting a total of $800 from our little contest. Nice!
Thanks to all who helped by adding Jeff or me to your Twitter follow list. Special thanks to Shavar Ross (@Shavar) for being my 500th follower!
If you want to follow any of the four Twitterers who are donating money from this contest, here are the links: @jquipp (Jeff), @w2scott (Will), @storyspinner (Li), and @mattmcgee.

No offense to Jeff, but I always knew I was backing a winner.
Great job, and great way to highlight a great cause.
Just glad to be able to help out.
All the best,
Will

Congrats on the win, Matt! Never a doubt in my mind–that guy Quipp had no idea what he was in for

Did you block spam-followers who follow thousands of people or not? If not, making you donate $800, was probably the first good thing done by a spam-follower ever
