Local Search Forecasts

Back from Portland now, and will have more on the very good SearchFest 2007 conference put on SEMpdx a few posts from now, but it’s time to play catch up a bit. I’m sure most/all of you have seen this stuff by now, but I need it in the SBS system for future reference, so please play along. :)

The Kelsey Group estimates online local search advertising to grow from $4.1 billion in 2006 to $11.1 billion globally in 2011.

Also while I was gone, Search Engine Watch recapped a monster Piper Jaffray report which included an estimate that local search currently makes up between 10%-30% of search queries. I can buy that, but their estimate that local search is the 2nd most popular “online service” (behind email) seems iffy to me. Greg Sterling has the Piper chart that’s worth looking at.

    Matt,
I was just reading some praise of the synergy between you and the other presenters over at SEOmoz.

    I want transcriptions!!!

The presentations looked so interesting, and I’m looking forward to your future posts on this. I’ll stay tuned.
